Prairie Warbler

A group of birders was at Newton Hills State Park in southeastern South Dakota in the spring of 2007 when they heard a song they couldn't identify.  It was this chap, a male Prairie Warbler, who spent that summer courting and possibly mating with a Yellow Warbler.  Certainly unusual, especially given how out-of-range Prairie Warblers are.  In any event, this guy was a well-documented and well-seen bird that summer, and it was great to be able to catch some nice close shots of him.  Taken in June 2007 at Newton Hills State Park.
