Osprey Photo

One of my favorite places to bird is below Gavin's Point Dam, on the Nebraska / South Dakota border.  Like below the other Missouri River dams in South Dakota, you never know what you might find, from rare gulls, waterfowl, to raptors such as this Osprey.  On this day, two of these guys were fishing in the waters right below the dam, oblivious to all the human activity below.  This one was hovering in a stiff wind, at one point no more than 30 feet above my head.  It was by far the closest look I've had at a wild Osprey.

Photo taken on October 28th, 2007 at Gavin's Point Dam near Yankton, South Dakota.
