Nesting Horned Puffin Pair

In June of 2006, I had a business trip in the Anchorage area, doing field work.  The field work itself was great, spending a week driving a flying around the Kenai Peninsula, but the most fun was when I took 2 days to go off on my own and go birding.  The highlight was definitely driving down to Seward, and taking a wildlife cruise off the coast.

I'd spent a couple of hours in the Sea Life Center in Seward, a wonderful place to see sea birds up close.  Then the cruise, when we passed large nesting colonies of gulls, cormorants, guillemots, and best of all, nesting puffins.  This beautiful pair of Horned Puffins was in a crack in an offshore rock spire, without a lot of other birds around them.   Quite a thrill to get to see them and photograph them.
