Fox Sparrow

Another beautifully patterned sparrow, these guys largely eluded me until the Fall of 2007, when there were at least a dozen hanging around the campsites at the Big Sioux Recreation Area across the streets from me.   With all the freshly fallen dead leaves, you could hear them all over the place, scratching through the litter on the ground for any tasty morsel they could find underneath.

Top photo taken on September 30th, 2006, bottom photo on October 10th, 2005, both at Atkin's Slough near Tea, South Dakota.
