Black Turnstone

I've seen Ruddy Turnstones on occasion as they migrate through South Dakota, but Black Turnstones are a species of the West Coast, not found inland.  I found a mixed flock of these guys and Surfbirds foraging along the rocky coast at "Land's End", an area in northwest San Francisco along the Pacific Coast.  Beautiful setting, and this shot with the rocks and vegetation does a great job of showing what the area is like.  Taken in December 2008 in San Francisco.
