Eastern Rosella Photos

Platycercus eximius

Imagine taking an entire palette of the brightest colors on your canvas, doing a paint-by-number, and sequentially filling out different portions of the bird until that color runs out. Then change colors, do the next section, etc. etc. etc.  That's what an Eastern Rosella looks like, with pretty much every bright color you can imagine. I saw them in a few places, but they were always very shy. Finally one morning at the Promised Land Retreat near Bellingen, I decided to just sit and wait for this small group of 3 to come and use the same perches and trees they had used the previous days. The strategy paid off when I finally got a couple of cooperative birds that stayed for the shots below.
