Australasian Figbird Photos

Sphecotheres vieilloti

Before going on our trip, I bought a couple of bird books and went through them, trying to get an idea of what kinds of species we might see. There were the species I really wanted to see...Southern Cassowary, the parrot species, honeyeaters, etc. And then there were the "what the hell is that" birds I'd see during our trip. I had no clue there was such a thing as an Australasian Figbird when I saw these sitting on wires in Port Douglas. We ended up seeing them all over the place though in tropic northeastern Queensland.
